Why play croquet?
While many players start at school or university, lots of people take up croquet when golf, tennis, squash, or other field sports become a little too strenuous, yet they still want a game that’s mentally stimulating and deeply satisfying.
It’s a sport that rewards thought rather than power or pure skill, making it accessible and enjoyable for players of all ages and levels of fitness.
If you’ve ever enjoyed bowls, snooker, or pool, you’ll quickly take to croquet’s combination of precision and tactical play. And for those who’ve tried the game at a hotel, school, university, or with the family in the garden, the “professional” versions of the game open up a new world of depth, skill, and challenge.
Croquet is easy to learn, endlessly varied, and wonderfully social. It’s a game that keeps both mind and body active — and offers the perfect balance of relaxation, challenge, and good company.
About the club
The club has three courts and clubhouse facilities on its own land. In 2024, the Cornwall Croquet became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in England and Wales, recognised by the Charity Commission.

Situated appropriately in Mid Cornwall, CCC is at the centre of croquet in Cornwall, with members from all over the county and beyond.
We play all versions of croquet: Association Croquet, Short Croquet, One Ball Croquet and Golf Croquet. We have numerous internal competitions, and we send teams to regional league events. However, most play is sociable “friendlies”.
The club is open all year, and we play through the winter (a big advantage of Cornwall!), when the weather is not too atrocious. We maintain the lawn intensively in March and tend not to play at that time.
Membership is open to anyone, of any age or experience. We have qualified coaches who can introduce new players, so have no fear if you are a total beginner!
We welcome visiting players from any Croquet England-recognised club.
We can host company and private events for a reasonable fee.
